Here’s the first trailer for the new Adult Swim show Black Dynamite: The Animated Series, based on the 2009 blaxploitation-style comedy film.

Plenty of stars from the big screen version will be back to voice their characters in animated form, including lead actor Michael Jai White. The show, like the film, will follow the exploits of a black kung fu expert who cleans up the streets in the 1970s. It’s a more comedic take on movies Dolemite, Shaft, and Foxy Brown.

Black Dynamite: The Animated Series will premiere on Adult Swim on Sunday, July 15th. An animated show based on Harold & Kumar is also in the works, and let’s hope they fare better than the animated Napoleon Dynamite TV series, which was recently cancelled after just one season.
