The first trailer for the remake of Red Dawn has arrived, and it looks like the film will have plenty of explosive, pulse pounding action. Like the original, the new movie sees a group of American teenagers forced to defend their homeland after the United States is invaded. Thor’s Chris Hemsworth plays a marine who happens to be home when the invasion begins, and he teaches his brother and his friends how to wage a guerrilla war. Josh Peck, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Josh Hutcherson play some of the fighting youngsters.
The villainous invaders in the original Red Dawn were the Soviets, and they were intended to be Chinese this time around, but the filmmakers decided to change them to North Koreans after filming in order to secure distribution in China. The flags, propaganda posters, and dialogue were altered in post production, but how exactly could North Korean invade and occupy a significant portion of the United States? Well, it’s explained in the trailer that they posses a new kind of super weapon, but since the country can’t even launch a simple rocket in real life, this may require a significant suspension of disbelief.
Red Dawn will liberate theatres on November 21.
