Double Fine Adventure Raises $3.3 Million

The Kickstarter program for the new adventure game from Double Fine Productions has come to an end, taking in an impressive $3,336,371 from 87,142 backers. That number comes as a surprise to the studio, especially given that it had originally hoped to earn just $400,000. The extra dough means that the game will be much bigger and better than originally planned.

There are still few details about what gamers can actually expect from the mysterious Double Fine Adventure. It’s billed as a throwback to classic point-and-click adventure games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle, and it’s being overseen by Double Fine founder and adventure game master Tim Schafer. The game is being developed for the PC, Mac, and Linux, along with iOS and Android mobile devices.

Anyone who donated will get access to a closed beta test closer to the game’s release, along with a few other goodies. Make sure you watch our interview with Tim Schafer for more details.
