Double Fine Productions is teaming up with Sega for a side-scrolling adventure game titled The Cave. Players will take the role of seven different characters, including a knight, a monk, and a time traveler, and then journey through a vast subterranean network of frightening caves. There will be plenty of puzzles, and you’ll need to switch back and forth between the different characters in order to solve them.
Development of The Cave is being led by Double Fine’s Ron Gilbert, who created classic adventure games like Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. Double Fine president and CEO Tim Schafer is also overseeing the project. It’s due for for release on consoles and the PC in early 2013.
Keep in mind that this isn’t the same Double Fine adventure game that made headlines earlier this year through its insanely-successful Kickstarter campaign. That project, simply titled Double Fine Adventure, has yet to be unveiled.
