Hulk and the rest of The Avengers are smashing puny box office records, because the Marvel superhero ensemble raked in more than $200 million dollars at the box office in its opening weekend, way more than any other film in history. The previous record holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, conjured up $169 million in its first weekend last year, while DC hero Batman took home a puny $158 million with the opening weekend of The Dark Knight in 2008.
The Avengers has so far earned more than $600 million dollars world wide. It still has a long way to go before claiming the number spot set by Avatar in late 2009 and early 2010. The Pandoran adventure earned $2.7 billion.
