Variety reports that the follow up to Batman: Arkham City will be a prequel, and feature Justice League characters like Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and The Flash. The game will focus on Batman’s first confrontation with The Joker, and take much of its inspiration from the Silver Age of DC Comics, from the 1950s to 1970s. There’s no official word on when to expect the new Arkham game, but Variety says it will arrive in 2014.
Variety adds that this is part of a growing push on behalf of Warner Bros. to use its Justice League characters more often. A live-action Justice League movie is in the early stages of development, and the DC heroes will also unite in the fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us next year. Warners and DC haven’t said why they made the decision to capitalize on the Justice League, but the fact that Marvel’s The Avengers is currently the third biggest movie of all time may have something to do with it.
Batman and Superman will also unite, in Lego form, in the new animated movie Lego: The Piece of Resistance. Think of it as a movie version of Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
