Variety reports that Michael Fassbender is set to star in the big screen Assassin’s Creed movie. Like the games, the film will focus on a man in the present day who relives the memories of his ancient assassin ancestors. It’s unclear if Fassbender will play Desmond, the present day hero from the games, or a completely new character. There’s also no word if Ezio Auditore, Altair, or any of the other popular assassin’s will make their way to the big screen.
Anyone who’s seen X-Men: First Class or Inglourious Basterds knowns that Michael Fassbender is fluent in German. We wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up playing a new future guy and a German assassin, but no announcements about that have been made. It would also be sweet if Ubisoft made a game based on the movie, using Fassbender’s likeness.
Michael Fassbender will also serve as producer on the Assassin’s Creed movie, and it’s the first big screen project being developed by game maker Ubisoft. The publisher says that Fassbender was the first choice for the role. A director is expected to be announced soon.
Assassin’s Creed III is the next game in the franchise, and it will take gamers to the American Revolution this October.
