UPDATE: Warner Bros. has released the first trailer and screenshots from the game.

Following the success of 2008′s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon and his NetherRealm Studios are working on a new DC fighting game titled Injustice: Gods Among Us.

It promises an original story that takes DC icons like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, and then thrusts them into epic battles on a massive scale. Ed Boon says that players will get plenty of fast-paced action. The rating is still pending, so there’s no word yet on how violent it will be. Will it be as gory and spin-rippingly awesome as Mortal Kombat? We’ll have to wait and see.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will hit the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U next year.
