Evil Dead and original Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi was attached to helm a big screen fantasy film based on the World of Warcraft franchise. Now, speaking with Crave Online, Raimi revealed that he’s off the project, and game maker Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a new filmmaker to replace him. Raimi lost [the] job due to his commitments to Oz: The Great and Powerful, which arrives next year.

There’s no word yet on who might take Raimi’s place on the World of Warcraft film, or when audiences can expect to see it. The next game expansion, Mists of Pandaria, will arrive later this year.
