The Amazing Spider-Man is breaking box office records, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone to learn that the film is being set up as the first instalment of a trilogy. The second movie is already in development, and speaking with Super Hero Hype, producer Avi Arad hinted that it will feature the classic group of Spidey villains known as the Sinister Six.
The villainous ensemble was first introduced by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko back in 1964, and features rogues like Doctor Octopus, Sandman, and Rhino. Arad says that, following the success of The Avengers, it makes sense to have multiple comic book characters on the big screen at the same time. Keep in mind that the team still hasn’t decided if it will use the Sinister Six, or just some of its members in the next movie. Don’t forget that a Venom spin-off is also on the way.
The next Spider-Man movie is scheduled to land in theatres in 2014, and is being written by Star Trek scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. You can expect the third instalment to arrive in 2016.
