Just a week after announcing that director Joss Whedon would be back to helm The Avengers 2, Marvel has now confirmed that the sequel will hit theatres on May 1, 2015. That means it will arrive three years after its predecessor, but there will be no less than four other Marvel movies in the meantime, with new solo outings from Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, plus the Guardians of the Galaxy ensemble.
If you need to mark your calendars, here’s a list of the upcoming films and their official release dates:
Iron Man 3 – May 3, 2013
Thor: The Dark World – November 8, 2013
Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 4, 2014
Guardians of the Galaxy – August 1, 2014
The Avengers 2 – May 1, 2015
There’s still no official word from Marvel on when to expect Edgar Wright’s long-in-development Ant Man movie, although it’s rumoured to be getting a late 2015 release. Joss Whedon and Marvel are also working on a heroic new TV series that will take place within the same universe as the films.
