An extended cut of The Avengers is rumoured to be getting a theatrical release before the end of the summer. Nothing has yet been confirmed by Marvel or Disney, but Joss Whedon has previously stated that more than 35 minutes of footage was cut from the version that audiences saw in theatres last month. The Avengers is already the third highest grossing film of all time, and a re-release would obviously make the money pile a little bigger.
Disney has already announced that The Avengers will save the day on DVD and Blu-ray on September 25. It’ll be the original theatrical cut of the film, but deleted footage will be included separately on the same disc. A sequel is in the early stages of development.
