E3 2012: Adidas MiCoach Lets You Train with the Stars

Quick Quotes: Just keep running

“Training alongside your own heroes is a fun and engaging way to get better for your sport or simply help you reach your fitness goals.”

?Simon Drabble, Director of miCoach business unit for adidas

The entire philosophy of MiCoach is based upon training with your favorite adidas sports stars. But is that really enough of a gimmick to set you above other exercise games? From what I’ve seen the answer to that question is no.

Having a famous person tell you push that little bit harder means just as little as the virtual stand-in that other games in the genre use. Just because someone on a screen is telling me to keep going doesn’t mean I’m going to listen, all I have to do is switch off the game and they’ve gone. It’s wrong to think that spending money on famous faces is enough to capture your market ? only pure gameplay can achieve that.

Which is a good thing, considering that MiCoach is more than good enough to stand on its own without the stars. The whole game is presented well, with smooth easy to navigate menus, and a fantastic set of exercise routines and mini-games.

The mini-games are the best part of the package, offering players a chance to get better at a sport of their choosing. The control and realism of the movement is top notch. MiCoach is a must have for anybody looking to get fit via gaming ? based on what’s been shown so far.
