According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Raimi is set to produce the long-in-development remake of the classic horror movie Poltergeist. Rumours of his involvement first surfaced last week with fans speculating that he’d also serve as director, but it remains to be seen who will take the job.
The original Poltergeist was written and produced by Steven Spielberg, with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre creator Tobe Hooper in the director’s chair. It follows the story of a normal family whose daughter is abducted by ghosts, and it turns out that their new house was built on an old graveyard. It spawned two sequels, and the less you know about those, the better.
Poltergeist won’t be the only new horror remake for Raimi. He’s also producing a new take on his own classic film, The Evil Dead, which will possess theatres next year. A big screen adaptation of the science-fiction novel Day of the Triffids is also getting on its feet.
