Valve, the game maker behind Half-Life, Portal, and Counter-Strike, is teaming up with 9 director Shane Acker to create an animated movie titled Deep.
It will take place in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are forced to live under the sea, and the animation team is creating it by using Valve’s Source engine. This will make it faster and less-expensive to render the visuals, and it also means that it will be easier to create a video game adaptation of the film by using the same character models and animations. The movie is expected to be released on Valve’s digital distribution service Steam.
Deep won’t be the first movie to be released on Steam. The documentary Indie Game: The Movie will hit the service on Tuesday, June 12. Half-Life 3 will not, because Valve hasn’t made it yet.
