Disney has released a new behind-the-scenes video introduction to Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, the upcoming Epic Mickey sequel which will be making the jump to HD consoles.
I love the concepts behind Epic Mickey, and I can’t deny the love and attention that went into making both the original game and this new sequel, but there’s still one point I just can’t get past: I don’t like the game’s art style.
I remember the visually amazing and arresting concept art that was crafted for the first Epic Mickey, only to have the game’s graphical style be far tamer in its final game form. I feel the same here, look at the great artwork that is shown during this video, and then compare that to the not-quite-as-unique look of the game itself.
This is one of the things I’d love to most see from the next generation of consoles when they come: The power to easily give games rich, advanced graphical filters, so that a project like Epic Mickey 2 could look like hand drawn artwork come to life.
