Heavy Rain developer Quantic Dream has released a cool video showing off the new animation technology they’re creating for their unannounced next game. What you see above isn’t footage from the actual game, its just a concept that was created to show off the tech, which allows game makers to capture facial expressions, body movement and the actor’s voice all at the same time. Quantic Dream’s David Cage says that the video is running in real-time on the PS3, and that the new technology will offer performance capture animation that rivals films like Avatar.
The concept video itself is titled Kara, and revolves around a human-like robot who experiences emotions like fear when she’s threatened with being deactivated. She’ll never be a real person, and viewers are sure to disappointed that the video will never be a real game.
Quantic Dream hasn’t given any hints about what kind of story players can expect from its actual new game, and there’s no word on when those details will come in.
